Fried Ice Cream

Fried Ice Cream:

Fried ice cream is a dessert made from a breaded scoop of ice cream that is quickly deep-fried creating a warm, crispy shell around the still-cold ice cream.
There are conflicting stories about the dessert's origin. Some claim that it was first served during the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. Though in 1894 a Philadelphia company was given credit for its invention , a third claim, beginning in the 1960s asserts that fried ice cream was invented by Japanese tempura restaurants.

Now I am going to show you the preparation of Fried Ice-cream at home.

Ingredients


Egg - 1no

Cornflakes / bread crumbs/  cookie crumbs - coarsely powdered

Ice cream - 3 scoops (vannila/chocolate/strawberry)

 Method:

  • First take any ice cream of your choice in a scoop and place it in a flat plate. Now place the plate in freezer for 30mins maximum.  
  • First beat the egg well in a bowl. Incase you have a aversion to egg please use the white alone. In that case get 2 egg whites beaten well.

  • Grind the cornflakes to a coarse mixture.You can also use bread crumbs or cookie crumbs. Place it in a bowl.


  • Now take the ice cream plate from the freezer and pull out one scoop. Shape it into a ball with your hands. The warmth in your hands is sufficient to shape it.



  • Now roll it into the cornflakes powder. 
  • Next dip it into the eggs and coat it well. 
  • Again roll it in the cornflakes and place it in the same tray. Repeat the same process for all the scoops and Now place the tray back into freezer for 15mins. It will get shaped together. You can also use desicated coconut as another coating.
  • Meantime heat oil in a a kadai, the oil should be hot enough to roast an appalam / vadai. Now after 15 mins take the ice cream ball and put it into the oil. Swap it for 10 seconds maximum. Take it out and place it on a plate. As its just 10secs you may feel the smell of egg if you have any allergies. So use egg white alone in that case. It will leave crumbs around the kadai, dont worry.The oil cannot be reused.
  • Top up with any fruits or dessert sauce. I have used Vannila dessert sauce. All the process needs to be done very fast else ice cream will melt off.
  • Enjoy the Warm Ice- Cream!!!
